BakerBaker, a female squirrel monkey, flew with Able, a female rhesus monkey on the Jupiter AM-18 mission which launched May 28, 1959 from Cape Canaveral. The monkeys flew 300 miles into space and were recovered safely.
Unfortunately, Able died shortly after the flight as doctors performed surgery to remove the sensors implanted underneath her skin. References: |
