Zond 5

Launched on September 9, 1968, Zond 5 was the Soviet Union's first successful circumlunar Earth-return space mission. The unmanned spacecraft flew around the moon on September 18, 1968. On September 21, 1968, the reentry capsule splashed down in the Indian Ocean.
