Wild 2

Comet Wild 2 (pronounced "Vilt 2") circled the Sun in an orbit between Jupiter and Uranus until a close encounter with Jupiter in September of 1974 which altered the comet's orbit so that its closest approach to the sun is now just inside the orbit of Mars.

In January of 2004, the Stardust spacecraft collected samples of the dust and debris around Wild 2. In 2006, the samples will be parachuted to earth for analysis.
