At 2.6" in diameter and 47.5" tall, the Shadow was one of the largest model rocket kits produced by Estes.
The Shadow was designed to take advantage of a new line of 'E' motors which Estes had produced. There were problems with the new Estes 'E' motors and they were withdrawn from the market. Although the Shadow could fly on D12-3 motors, the flights were not very impressive and often the rocket did not reach a high enough altitude to allow time for the parachute to deploy. Therefore the Shadow was not in production for very long.
