Touchdown
Date/Time: Sun 12 Nov 2006 10:17:13 AM EST
With almost no wind, the rocket landed near the pads.
Charred
Date/Time: Sun 12 Nov 2006 11:26:36 AM EST
The inside of the Shadow was charred black.
Failed Motor
Date/Time: Sun 12 Nov 2006 11:27:47 AM EST
The Aerotech motor failed, burning out through the top.
Melted
Date/Time: Sun 12 Nov 2006 11:28:07 AM EST
The fins were loose because the fire inside the rocket melted the Aerotech "Fin-Lok" guides and the epoxy holding the fins in place.
Aftermath
Date/Time: Tue 26 Dec 2006 06:43:00 PM EST
After a successful flight on an F motor, I decided to fly the Shadow on a G motor. The G motor failed on the pad setting off the ejection charge then burning the inside of the rocket.
Rebuilding the Shadow

I tried to reuse the fins, but ended up cutting new rear fins.
Motor Mount
Date/Time: Tue 26 Dec 2006 06:55:12 PM EST
Aerotech sent me a replacement motor, a new body tube, and a motor mount kit.

I cut new rear fins from 1/8" plywood, but reused the front fins.
Painting

I painted the new section black and the top silver.
Completed Shadow Clone
Date/Time: Sun 31 Dec 2006 01:09:18 PM EST
I painted the new rocket using the original black and silver scheme. It wasn't until I put the parts together for this photograph, that I realized I had forgotten to shorten the new body tube to the correct length. But I like it, so I won't fix it.
