NEFAR Bunnell Blast Nov. 11 & 12 - Come Fly With Us, Sunny Florida in November

[posting on behalf of Mike Kiss - NEFAR Secretary - BC]

Hello All,

I am sending this out to inform everyone of our upcoming Bunnell
Blast launch on November 11 & 12. This is our annual two day launch.
It has attracted some rather large crowds in the past and we expect
the same again this year. The schedule will not include a night
launch this year but we will be running late on Saturday going until
the last waning seconds of daylight into dusk. If we can see it on
the pad, it will fly.

The Boy Scouts will be there the whole day, on Saturday this time to
serve great food throughout the day. The usual hot dogs and
hamburgers will be grilling all day long and they have promised a
special surprise dinner meal selection. The Scouts always serve up
some great food. I have also been informed that we will have a food
vendor available for Sunday.

As normal there are NO registration fees for the Bunnell Blast, but
this year we will be going one step farther and eliminating ALL
launch fees. Yes, you read that correctly, come fly with us all
weekend long for FREE, but please bring some extra cash along because
we have a multitude of great items for this years raffle and we will
be taking the usual donations for the Clegg family who so graciously
allow us to use this fantastic field.

I have not been informed of exactly which vendors will be there, but
there will be some available.

There will be at least 4 "M" motor launches during the weekend, one
of them being a new level three attempt.

This will be the official hotel for the launch.
Super 8 Motel - Ormond Beach

1634 North US 1 & I-95
I- 95 Exit 273
Ormond Beach, FL 32174 US
Phone: 386-672-6222

This hotel is located at exit 273 off of I-95. There are also about 4
or 5 other hotels available at that exit. Make reservations as soon
as possible, but I do not foresee that rooms will not be available.

Please pass this on to anyone who may be interested. Let your friends
up north (where it's already snowing) know that we have a great place
and great weather for flying.

If I have left anything out, I am sure that one of the other officers
will "kindly" inform me. For information about the launch site and
ground support equipment, please visit our web site at
http://www.nefar.net/.

See Ya There,

Mike Kiss

[And a follow-up about the hotel]

There seems to be some discrepancy about the Super 8 Hotel. I have made my reservation through Expedia.com for $56 for a double room. Bill Baldwin called and they quoted $79. I would just suggest going through Expedia unless you want to call them directly and question them as to why the room rate is cheaper through Expedia.

I made reservations through Super 8's web site. Friday night was more expensive, but Saturday night was about $56.

Wow. What a great offer! I always looked forward to attending those Bunnell Blast events. Fire off a few G's for me Brian. Take plenty of pics.

I *really* need to get back out there and fly rockets again.

G's?!??!?!? We don't need no stinkin' G's!
I'm actually contemplating a Level-2 attempt.

I'm planning to launch my first I motor (Level 1.5?). I may also (possibly at the same time) use dual-deployment for the first time.

I've redesigned and rebuilt the "Jolly Roger" which I hope will fly (and land) better in Bunnell. Our Akavish will also return. We had planned to retire him before he went and made a perfect flight a couple months ago. So he got a reprieve.

I was just about to start building a rocket especially for the night launch when I saw the note that there won't be one. But I may go ahead and build it anyway since it'll look good at dusk. We missed the night launch last year. The mosquitos chased us away. :-)

It's kind of ironic that at the same time that I've started building and flying larger rockets (Level 1), I've developed a renewed interest in smaller rockets. It's mostly due to attending the R.O.C.K. launches, but I've also been inspired by several TRF threads.

I'd like to come, but right now I don't think I'll be able to make it without me winning $500 somewhere somehow soon...

It sucks, but I'll be there early next year...

Well, 'scuse me! At this point I'd settle for flying anything that will push out a parachute!

Brian,

What day do you plan to fly? I am still seeing if my schedule ("Honey Do List") will allow a trip up this weekend?

I really wished that I couldve made it with some of my stuff, but a rather serious issue has cropped up to prevent that......

Still would like to make a ROCK launch if you tell me how large/small that new site *really* is!

It depends on the wind.

I'm planning for sure Saturday morning for my L2 attempt (passed the written
test tonight!) and Sunday will depend. I didn't make reservations
at the hotel, so I'll be driving back-n-forth.

Thumbs up Wow! what a first day!

We had absolutely perfect conditions for flying today! mid-80 temperatures,
no wind to speak of and several M-motor flights!

My L2 was successful - see here.

I managed to grab a few good shots of some flights.

Here's Dr. Sue's Yellow Crayon.

Here's a LOC Expediter (I think) just coming up to pressure.
Are you sensing a trend here?

And this is my best shot of the day. One of the many M-flights that
graced the skies today.

Who says it isn't easy being green?
