The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

A specially-built spy car appeared in a few episodes of the hit 1960s TV show "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and its spin-off "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E."

AMT, the plastic model kit maker, built the "Piranha" spy car in exchange for the rights to the model. Gene Winfield of AMT's "Speed & Custom Division" shop in Phoenix, Arizona, designed the car. Included in the design was a rocket launcher built into the gull-wing doors.

Winfield turned to Leroy Piester of Centuri to provide the rockets to be launched from the car. Built in typical model rocket fashion from cardboard and balsa, the rockets flew using Mini-Max F motors.
