Radar Evaluation PodTo practice and demonstrate rendezvous in orbit, Gemini 5 used a small satellite called the Radar Evaluation Pod (REP). The REP was released from the Gemini spacecraft while in orbit. It was intended to be used as a rendezvous target, but a problem with fuel cells on the Gemini spacecraft prevented the tests with the REP. Instead, the crew rendezvoused with a "phantom target" later in the mission. References:
