Bi-metallic Thermoelectric Device

In 1821, the physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck discovered that by welding two wires made of different metals together and creating a temperature difference between the wires where they met, an electric current is generated. Seebeck had invented the thermocouple. The "Bi-metallic Thermoelectric Device" used on the Voyager spacecraft used the Seebeck Effect to directly convert the heat from the decay of a radioactive source directly into electricity.
