Asteroid Ida

Named for the nymph who raised the infant Zeus (Jupiter), Ida is an asteroid in the main Asteroid Belt.

On August 28, 1993, the spacecraft Galileo flew within 1500 miles of Ida. When photographs from the space probe were analyzed it was discovered that Ida is orbited by the first natural satellite of an asteroid ever discovered.
