Ariane 5The European Space Agency spent 10 years developing the Ariane 5 launch system.
Ariane 5 was originally designed to carry a manned shuttle but the ESA cancelled the "Hermes" project. The Ariane 5 is now used to deliver satellites into geostationary transfer orbit and to send payloads to Low Earth orbit. References: |
